Now that you have completed all of the investigations, it is time to apply those skills to your final project! You will be working on your own as well as in class to create your own hurricane. You will complete all of your planning using the online resources, and you will create your virtual model in class.
Step 1: Create a Profile of Your Hurricane

- Wind Speed
- A diagram that includes:
- the four major components of a hurricane: the eye, eyewall, rainbands, and diameter
- An illustration of the formation of your hurricane.

Step 2: Create A Map of the Path of your Hurricane
Download the Map below. Create a map of the path of you hurricane.
Follow these steps:
Submit your profile and Map for approval before you can create your virtual model in class.
Follow these steps:
- Step 1: Select a starting point for your Tropical Disturbance.
- Remember tropical disturbances begin off the coust of Africa between 5 and 30 degrees North Latitude
- Step 2: Plot the point of the hurricane as it head towards the East Coast.
- Be sure to label the stage or category at each point. For example: Tropical Storm, Category 1, Category 2 etc...
- Step 3: Place the High and Low pressure systems on your map
- Remember: Pressure systems help to steer the hurricane so make sure your path steers accurately around the pressure systems
- Step 4: Identify where your hurricane makes landfall.

Step 3: Create A virtual Model of a Hurricane
You will be creating a virtual model of a hurricane using the model you created on paper. This will be created in class.
Step 4: Creating A Presentation
Choose one of the following options:
- Create a Newspaper Article documenting your Hurrican from formation to Landfall.
- Write a Script for a Documentary of your hurricane.
- Create and act out a Weather Forcast outline the path your hurricane has taken predicting the future path or your hurricane.
- Make a powerpoint to present the profile, map, and model of your hurricane.
