What steers a hurricane?
Teaching Point:
Students will be able to appraise the role of air masses on the movement and motion path of a hurricane.
Activity:
The students will investigate the role of wind direction on the path of a hurricanes by playin Hurricane Hero. They will evaluate their strategy and make observations on the effect of wind on the direction of a hurricane.
Students will then complete an investigation in which they will pressure systems to try to aim a hurricane at an intended target. They will evaluate and assess the role of pressure systems on the motion paths of hurricanes.
Assessment:
Students will be assessed on their investigation record sheet and their ability to draw conclusions.
