Pre Requisites:
Students need to have completed the weather studies and air masses unit. Students need to have basic commands of Adobe Flash Objective 1 Students will be able to define and identify the 4 major components of a hurricane. (eye, rain bands, wind, rotation) Motivation: What did you experience during hurricane Sandy? What was it like?
Objective 2 Students will be able to identify the elements necessary for hurricane formation. Prerequisites: Label and identify parts of a hurricane Motivation: Today you will be creating a hurricane
Objective 3 Students will be able to apply their knowledge of convection currents to illustrate the elements necessary for hurricane formation. Prerequisite: Identify elements necessary for hurricane formation Motivation: What elements are necessary for hurricanes to form?
Objective 4 Students will be able to appraise the role of air masses on the movement and motion path of a hurricane. Prerequisite: Students will be able to illustrate a diagram of hurricane formation Motivation: Model Aim a Cane (http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/outreach/games/movncane.htm)
Objective 5 Students will be able to compare and contrast the projected motion path of Hurricane Sandy to the actual motion path and evaluate the effect of air masses on the motion path of a hurricane. Prerequisite: Students can appraise the role of air masses on hurricanes
Objective 6: In Class Assignement Students will be able to create a virtual path of a hurricane. Prerequisites: Students can identify the elements that effect the path of a hurricane Motivation: Model creation of hurricane sandy’s path
