Students will take a gallery walk to view images of hurricanes and will also watch a brief video on hurricanes. They will then record and submit their observations to the teacher. Students will be expected to share their observations during the class discussion. Assessment: Students will be assessed on their observations and participation in class discussions. |
Lesson 1.2 Stages of a Hurricane
Teaching Point:
Students will be able to identify and define the 4 stages of a hurricane and explain how storms strengthen. Activity Students will read an article and wactch a video on the stages of hurricanes and then answer comprehension questions. They will then apply their knowledge to a class discussion. Assessment: Students will be evaluated based on the accuracy of their answers on Activity 2 |
Lesson 1.3Parts of a Hurricane
Teaching Point:
Students will be able to label the 4 major components of a hurricane. Activity: Students will use the information from all three lessons to create a profile and diagram of their own hurricane. They will be required to name their hurricane, state the category and sustained winds, and label all parts of the hurricane. They will share there hurricanes with their peers during a gallery walk in class. Assessment: Students will be evaulated and given feedback by their peers during a gallery walk in class. They will also be evaluated by the teacher using a rubric.
